As we have developed our experience in retrofit we have been invited to contribute to a number of guidance documents on the subject. We have worked with local authorities, public bodies, industry organisations and building owners to develop strategies, policies and guidance to reduce the energy consumption and carbon emissions of buildings.

Retrofit London

Housing Action Plan

London Councils, a collective representing all 32 London boroughs led a study into how to retrofit all of London. Working with Etude, Levitt Bernstein and Elementa we helped plan a trajectory to net zero for the London housing stock. The 118 page guide covered measures, delivery models, finance and engagement and was signed up to by all 33 London boroughs. In this study we started developing our recent work on archetypes.

A BRISTOLIAN’S GUIDE TO

Solid wall insulation

2017 for Bristol City Council

In 2015 Bob worked with the STBA (Sustainable Traditional Building Association) to produce guidance for Bristol City Council on solid wall insulation.  The remit of the guide covered whole house thinking and detailing, for which we developed archetypes, carried out modelling and produced detail drawings. 

ESSA Retrofit Guidance

Funded by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) and commissioned by a conservation area group, this set of guidance aims at enabling homeowners within the conservation area to navigate their way through a retrofit project on their home.

THE INSTITUTE OF SUSTAINABILITY

Managing low carbon Retrofit projects

One of 12 guides on domestic retrofit produced for the Institute of Sustainability in 2011, this focussed on managing projects and was written by Bob. Importantly it set out the idea of a ‘retrofit coordinator’, a new role that would be developed by Bob and others with the Retrofit Academy to become the bedrock of the PAS 2035 standard, a framework for whole-house retrofit in the UK.
