Brass Wall light

part of the 'off-cuts' series
PROTOTYPE completed: 2017
Made by: castle welding

A wall mounted up-lighter for the entrance hall of the Dundon Passivhaus. The brass fitting is shaped to throw light across the largest possible area of ceiling while ensuring that the LED strip light source is not directly visible from any direction to avoid glare. A lip on the top prevents light shining directly on the wall above the fitting where it would be too bright. The result is a soft, diffuse light reflected by the texture of the rough sawn, matt white painted timber ceiling..

The fitting is made from lengths of 50 x 50mm brass angle left over from another lighting project. Small lengths of angle have been welded on the back to space the fitting off the wall.
